In a significant step towards strengthening public healthcare services, Forest and Environment Minister of State (Independent Charge) Sanjay Sharma inaugurated a Fine Needle Aspiration Cytology (FNAC) Centre at the Pathology Department of Rajiv Gandhi General Hospital in Alwar district on Monday.
The launch of this advanced diagnostic facility marks the formal commencement of cancer and tumor testing services within the district hospital itself, offering major relief to patients from Alwar and nearby rural areas.
Major Relief for Poor and Middle-Class Patients
Addressing the gathering, Minister Sanjay Sharma said that the introduction of modern FNAC technology at the district hospital will significantly benefit poor and middle-class families. Patients will now be able to get cancer and lump examinations done within the hospital premises, eliminating the need to spend thousands of rupees at private diagnostic centres.
He highlighted that under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma, the state government is consistently working to strengthen the healthcare system and expand medical facilities across Rajasthan. Special provisions have been made in all three state budgets to enhance district-level medical infrastructure.
Following the inauguration, the Minister also planted a sapling as part of his daily tree plantation pledge, spreading awareness about environmental conservation.
What is FNAC and Why is it Important?
Dr. Sunil Chauhan, Chief Medical Officer, explained that FNAC (Fine Needle Aspiration Cytology) is a simple, safe, and highly effective diagnostic procedure used to detect cancer and other diseases. The technique involves extracting cells from a lump using a very thin needle. Since no incision is required, there is no need for stitches, and patients do not require hospital admission.
Principal of the Government Medical College, Dr. Indu Sood, stated that the hospital aims to provide advanced diagnostic facilities under one roof, and the establishment of the FNAC Centre is a major step in that direction.
Why This Facility Matters to the Public
Head of the Pathology Department, Dr. Santosh Meena, described FNAC as a highly effective and minimally invasive method. It can be used to examine lumps in various parts of the body, including:
Breast lumps
Neck swellings
Thyroid nodules
Lymph nodes
Key Benefits for Patients
Early detection of cancer: Helps identify cancer at an early stage, enabling timely treatment.
No surgery required: The procedure does not involve any surgical incision.
No hospitalization: Patients can return home the same day.
Local availability of reports: Patients no longer need to travel to Jaipur or Delhi for diagnostic testing.
The event was attended by senior pathology specialists including Dr. Neel Sharma, Dr. Suman Meena, Dr. Shilpa Chhabra, and Dr. Renu Rathore, along with hospital staff and other dignitaries.
With the launch of the FNAC Centre, Alwar district hospital takes a significant step forward in accessible, affordable, and advanced cancer diagnostics—bringing quality healthcare closer to the people.
