Jaipur has gained a new public-sector allergy care point, with the Rajasthan University of Health Sciences (RUHS) launching an allergy clinic on March 27, 2026. The facility was inaugurated by RUHS Vice Chancellor Dr. Pramod Yevale and aims to reduce reliance on SMS Hospital and private centres for allergy testing and treatment.

RUHS is now the second government institution in Rajasthan, after SMS Hospital, to offer scientific and detailed allergy testing. This is significant for Jaipur, where demand for diagnosis is rising and many patients still pay private rates for tests related to asthma, allergic rhinitis, skin reactions, and food sensitivities.

Quick Highlights

  • RUHS launched its allergy clinic on March 27, 2026.
  • It is Rajasthan’s second government facility after SMS Hospital to provide detailed allergy testing.
  • The clinic can test for 75 allergens, including dust, pollen, and food-related triggers.
  • Tests that typically cost ₹4,000–₹5,000 in private centres will be available free of cost.

For Jaipur residents, this means improved access—another government option for specialised allergy testing, reducing long waits at SMS Hospital and out-of-pocket expenses elsewhere.

Why the new clinic matters in Jaipur

RUHS Principal Dr. Vinod Joshi and Hospital Superintendent Dr. Anil Gupta noted that studies suggest around 20% to 30% of people in India are affected by some form of allergy. Cases range from allergic rhinitis and asthma to skin conditions and food-related reactions.

The growing number of cases has been linked to worsening air pollution, changing lifestyles, urbanisation, dust exposure, and rising pollen levels. In a city like Jaipur, where dust and seasonal air-quality issues are common, the clinic plays an important public health role.

What RUHS will test at the clinic

ENT Senior Professor Dr. Mohanish Grover said the clinic has begun testing for 75 different allergens. These include dust, multiple pollen types based on the Rajasthan pollen calendar, and various food allergens. This allows for more accurate, targeted diagnosis rather than relying only on symptoms.

The facility is being seen as a major step forward because of its structured and scientific testing approach, making RUHS only the second government institution in the state with such capabilities.

Cost relief for patients

Similar allergy tests typically cost ₹4,000 to ₹5,000 at private hospitals and labs. RUHS is offering these services free of charge, which could significantly help families who delay testing due to cost.

Overall, the clinic strengthens Jaipur’s public healthcare system by improving access to allergy diagnosis and follow-up care. It may also reduce pressure on SMS Hospital while providing patients with a more affordable and convenient option.
