Jaipur is set to witness significant improvements in its traffic management system following key decisions taken during the 94th Traffic Control Board meeting held at the Jaipur Development Authority (JDA). The meeting, chaired by JDA Commissioner Siddharth Mahajan, focused on addressing the city’s growing traffic demands and implementing measures to ensure smoother, safer, and more organized transportation across Jaipur.
Redevelopment of Major Road Corridors
One of the major highlights of the meeting was the approval of the redevelopment of the Sikar Road Corridor and the New Sanganer Road Corridor under the Urban Road Corridor Development plan.
To reduce congestion on New Sanganer Road, the board has approved several improvements, including:
Signal-free U-turns to reduce traffic stoppages
Safe pedestrian crossings for better public safety
Roadside horticulture development to enhance the road environment
These improvements are expected to streamline traffic flow and significantly reduce frequent traffic jams in the area.
Better Connectivity Through Dravyavati River Project
To improve connectivity between different residential colonies, the board has approved the construction of four new box culverts under the Dravyavati River Project. These structures will enhance road connectivity and ease movement between neighborhoods.
Scientific Upgradation of Major Junctions
Several key junctions in Jaipur face heavy traffic pressure. To address this issue, the board approved scientific redevelopment and strengthening of major intersections, including:
Central Spine
Panipech
Chinkara
Jal Bhawan
Chandpole Circle
Goner Road
Mahal Road
Vatika Road
Ambabari
The redesign and strengthening of these junctions aim to ensure smoother traffic flow and better management during peak hours.
Unsafe Median Cuts to Be Closed
In an effort to reduce road accidents and improve traffic safety, authorities have decided to close several unsafe median cuts on busy routes. These include sections along:
Tonk Road
Gopalpura Bypass
Mahal Road
Sahakar Marg
Kalwar Road
Instead of these risky openings, safe and regulated U-turn points will be developed to ensure controlled vehicle movement.
New Footpaths for Pedestrian Safety
The board also emphasized improving pedestrian infrastructure. New footpaths have been approved at the following locations:
Kalwar Road: Approximately 2200 meters on both sides
Loha Mandi Road: Approximately 1200 meters on both sides
These developments aim to provide safer walking spaces for pedestrians and encourage more organized traffic movement.
“Safe School & College Zone” Initiative
Recognizing the importance of student safety, the board introduced the Safe School and College Zone initiative. Under this initiative, traffic calming measures will be implemented near educational institutions.
A pilot project will begin near St. Xavier’s, St. Soldier, and Maryland School on Bhagwan Das Road. Planned safety features include:
Tabletop crossings
Speed markings
Pedestrian crossings
Guard rails
These measures are designed to slow down traffic and ensure safer road conditions for students.
Commitment to Modern Traffic Management
Speaking during the meeting, JDA Commissioner Siddharth Mahajan stated that Jaipur is steadily moving toward modern and safer traffic management systems. He instructed officials to prioritize the implementation of all approved projects so that residents can benefit from improved safety and smoother travel across the city.
