Rajasthan Chief Minister Shri Bhajanlal Sharma has highlighted the crucial role of district-based local products in driving the state’s economic growth. To preserve and promote the unique identity, heritage, and strengths of every district, the state government has launched the innovative Panch Gaurav Programme.
The initiative focuses on creating long-term economic and cultural value by identifying and nurturing each district’s core strengths.
A Structured Plan for Every District
During a high-level review meeting at the Chief Minister’s Office, Shri Sharma directed officials to prepare priority-based, long-term action plans for the five identified elements under the Panch Gaurav Programme in every district. He also instructed nodal departments to conduct regular monitoring and reviews to ensure effective implementation.
Building Awareness Among Students and Citizens
To strengthen grassroots engagement, the Chief Minister emphasized introducing the Panch Gaurav Programme in schools, enabling students to understand and take pride in their district’s unique identity. He further stressed the importance of public participation, ensuring that local communities remain actively involved in programme activities.
Branding Local Products Through Innovation
Highlighting the need for innovation-driven growth, Shri Sharma called for strategic branding of selected agricultural and local products from each district. This approach aims to provide these products with a distinct identity and wider market recognition.
The Forest Department has been directed to develop plants based on regional specialties and appoint Vriksha Mitras.
The Sports Department has been instructed to actively connect local youth with sports at the district level.
Tourism Development and Employment Generation
Under the “One District, One Tourist Destination” initiative, the Chief Minister directed that essential infrastructure—such as roads, parking, and basic tourist facilities—be developed at identified tourist destinations. These improvements are expected to enhance visitor experience while creating local employment opportunities.
Additionally, policy frameworks will be developed for capacity building of tourist guides and other stakeholders, strengthening Rajasthan’s tourism ecosystem.
What Is the Panch Gaurav Programme?
Under the Panch Gaurav initiative, each district promotes:
One Product
One Crop
One Sport
One Plant
One Tourist Destination
This holistic approach aims to preserve, promote, and enhance local specialties, ensuring sustainable development while celebrating Rajasthan’s diverse cultural and economic identity.
The review meeting was attended by Chief Secretary Shri V. Srinivas and senior officials from departments including Industry, Forest & Environment, Tourism, Agriculture, Sports, and Planning.
