Jaipur: ICA Gallery has opened Virtuosity, its annual exhibition of modern Indian art, with works by more than 65 artists, among them M.F. Husain, S.H. Raza, F.N. Souza and Paresh Maity. The show is on at the gallery in C-Scheme until 30 October, from 11 am to 7 pm.
The exhibition was inaugurated on Saturday, 10 October, by the chief guest, Manju Rajpal, Principal Secretary, Agriculture and Horticulture, Government of Rajasthan, together with Vijendra Bansal and Abhinav Bansal of ICA Gallery.

Husain, Raza and Souza
Among the highlights are three works by M.F. Husain: Property of a Lady, Property of a Teacher and Honolulu!. S.H. Raza is represented by Achal and Bindu, and F.N. Souza by an untitled work, Landscape with Crosses. Seen together, they show the distinct styles, visual languages and experiments that shaped modern Indian art.

Maity, Subramanyan and Pyne
Paresh Maity's Shantiniketan VI and Shantiniketan XII hang alongside watercolour, gouache and pastel works by K.G. Subramanyan, and works by Ganesh Pyne, whose art draws on folklore, mythology and dreamlike imagery.

Khakhar, Chowdhury, Khanna and Menon
The show also includes Bhupen Khakhar's works in watercolour and graphite, and pieces by Jogen Chowdhury that explore ink, pastel and charcoal. There is an acrylic-and-charcoal canvas by Krishen Khanna and an oil on masonite by Anjolie Ela Menon. The gallery's invitation also lists K. Laxma Goud, K.H. Ara, T. Vaikuntam, Ramgopal Vijayvargiya and Nannu Singh among the artists on view.

With its range of styles, mediums and individual voices, Virtuosity traces how modern Indian art grew and how varied it became, through the artists who did much to shape the country's art.
