Rajasthan is stepping up efforts to move households from LPG cylinders to domestic piped natural gas connections, with city gas distribution companies expanding their networks and adding domestic, commercial and industrial users.
Rajasthan State Gas Limited Managing Director Vinay Patni said the Centre and state government are focused on the transition to DPNG, or domestic piped natural gas. He urged residents to consider connecting where network infrastructure is available.

Why Rajasthan is promoting piped gas

For households, the main practical change is continuity of supply: users do not need to book and replace LPG cylinders when gas is delivered through a live pipeline network. Actual availability, however, depends on whether a neighbourhood or building falls within a serviced area.
The push is not limited to homes. City gas distributors are also working to add industrial and commercial connections as their networks expand, making the programme relevant to hotels, hostels, residential complexes and other establishments in growing urban areas.

The figures were highlighted as RSGL marked its 14th foundation day. Company officials said infrastructure is being developed on priority for domestic users as well as hostels, hotels, multi-storey buildings, commercial establishments and industrial units.
Connections are being issued in areas where the required network is already available. The expansion is intended to bring more consumers within reach of piped gas while allowing businesses and institutions to adopt the same distribution system.

The announcement was issued in Jaipur but did not provide a ward-wise or neighbourhood-wise rollout list, connection charges, tariffs or an application deadline. Residents interested in switching will therefore need to confirm whether their address is covered by an active city gas network and obtain current connection terms from the relevant provider.
The next phase will depend on how quickly distributors extend pipelines into new service areas. For Jaipur households already near operational infrastructure, the policy direction signals a stronger push to make piped gas a routine alternative to LPG cylinders.
