Rajasthan has called for government polytechnic colleges to update courses, modernise laboratories and deepen ties with employers as the state seeks to build its manufacturing workforce. The priorities were set out at a review in Jaipur on October 23, 2026, chaired by Chief Secretary V. Srinivas.

The Samvad dialogue at the State Secretariat brought together principals from 10 government polytechnics, including the government polytechnic and government women's polytechnic in Jaipur. Institutions presented their infrastructure, placements, innovations, future plans and challenges.

Courses and practical training to reflect industry needs

Srinivas directed colleges to align their curricula with industry requirements and organise skill development and training for faculty. He also called for effective steps to modernise laboratories, linking the changes to demand for skilled technical workers as industrial investment grows.

Colleges were asked to hold regular workshops, industry field visits, technical discussions and sessions on new technologies. These activities are intended to give students more practical training and a better understanding of how industries operate.

Better placements and closer college partnerships

The review called for special efforts to improve student placements and salary packages. Srinivas also urged greater collaboration between polytechnics and engineering colleges through joint academic and technical programmes.

For Jaipur's diploma students, the proposed changes would put more emphasis on practical training and interaction with employers.

Centres of excellence in Jaipur, Jodhpur and Bikaner

Additional Chief Secretary for Higher and Technical Education Kuldeep Ranka said Rajasthan currently operates 68 government polytechnic colleges. Efforts are under way to increase admissions and improve how the institutions function.

He outlined the position of centres of excellence already established or being developed:

LocationNumber of centresStatus
Jaipur3Established
Jodhpur1Established
Jodhpur1Being developed
Bikaner1Being developed

Srinivas also directed officials to work towards at least five centres of excellence and explore support from public sector undertakings. The directions did not specify whether that figure includes the existing and developing centres, or set a budget or completion timetable.
