Rajasthan is prioritising financially stronger power distribution companies, modern grids and better consumer services, Energy Minister Hiralal Nagar said on October 27, 2026. The state is emphasising smart metering, digital technology and energy storage as electricity demand and renewable generation grow.

Nagar called for wider use of data analytics, artificial intelligence and automation to improve the transparency, efficiency and reliability of electricity distribution. He said the government was strengthening the network to provide consumers with uninterrupted supply and better services.

Stronger utilities and better consumer service

The minister identified grid modernisation, battery energy storage and reducing aggregate technical and commercial losses as priorities for the distribution sector. Citing progress on utility finances, he said Jaipur Discom recorded a profit of Rs 931 crore in 2025-26.

Chief Secretary V. Srinivas said Rajasthan was modernising its distribution network to integrate renewable energy. He stressed the need for more accurate demand forecasting and coordination between transmission and distribution systems, alongside battery storage.

On consumer services, Srinivas praised Jaipur Discom for an 82% satisfaction level in the resolution of complaints registered on Rajasthan Sampark. This measures satisfaction with complaint handling.

Solar capacity and daytime farm power

Nagar put Rajasthan's installed solar capacity at about 45 gigawatts and its total renewable energy capacity at about 52 gigawatts. He said renewable capacity had increased by more than 28 gigawatts in less than three years.

He also outlined the scale of household and agricultural solar installations across the state:

  • More than 3.55 lakh homes have rooftop solar installations under the PM Surya Ghar scheme.
  • More than 5,500 megawatts of decentralised solar projects have been installed under Components A and C of PM-KUSUM.
  • Those agricultural solar projects are providing daytime electricity to more than 3.75 lakh farmers.

The expansion of solar installations places greater importance on storage, demand forecasting and network coordination as the state works to integrate renewable power.

National meet on distribution reforms

Nagar and Srinivas addressed the opening of the 10th national Distribution Utility Meet in Jaipur. The two-day conference is being organised jointly by Rajasthan's energy department and the India Smart Grid Forum, marking the first time Rajasthan has hosted the event.

Discussions cover utility finances, smart-meter data analysis, AI tools, cybersecurity, grid upgrades, energy storage and zero-carbon goals. Participants are also examining how distribution networks can manage the additional demand from data centres and electric vehicles.

Energy Secretary Aarti Dogra and India Smart Grid Forum President Reji Kumar Pillai addressed the opening session. The meeting brings utilities together to share practical experience and develop solutions for the distribution sector.
